Review of Watchmen (2009) by Alemoriconi — 01 Mar 2019
A well-planned adaptation of a nearly-impossible-to-adapt graphic novel. Even if many people (and Alan Moore himself) are convinced that the graphic novel is the best and only possible medium for this story, it doesn't give the film less value. It had to adapt something, and it did in a coherent way.
The most important feature of the graphic novel, three-dimensional characters and philosophy guiding their action, is maintained. The core message is maintained. Many bad reviews come from either people who did not appreciate the graphic novel (hard to imagine, but they exist), or from overly-affectionate fans of it.
It is a ground-breaking superhero movie, cleverly adapted form a ground-breaking graphic novel.
