Review of Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale - Part 1: The Sun Flag (2011) by Kiran V — 08 May 2012
I am surprised how many critics miss the point. 1."Warriors" doesn't want just to cater to the audience. The honest depiction of the massacre is meant to create historical vividness and make you think hard about the killing.
2.Far more important is the spirituality. Why did the Seediqs choose to fight a war destined to be lost and they knew it all from the start? The film is most extraordinary in that it narrates with complexity how the Seediqs were struggling between tradition and modernity, between conflictig identities, and how good-meaning people were cast into historical tragedy.
For those who have doubts, see it again. It will not fail you.
