Review of Wargames (1962) by Sara M — 16 May 2008
I love this movie!! Yes, it is dated in practically every way possible- but whatever! Watching takes you on a trip back in time to the early 80's (which happened before I was even born) to a world where global destruction seemed immenient and computers took up entire rooms.
The best part of this movie is the INSANE amount of suspense it creates which in my opinion is nearly at the level of Hitchcock suspense. The opening few minutes alone will have your heart racing. "TURN YOUR KEY!!".
Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy are great in their roles- pre-Ferris Buelher and Breakfast Club. Also the man who played Prof. Falken gives a pretty captivating performance.
Yes, yes this film is like super dated, and a bit on the ridiculous side too. But the message still holds up and in many regards is just as relevant today as ever. Nobody REALLY wins in a war.
"Strange game. The only way to win is not to play.".
