Review of War, Inc. (2008) by Newt C — 23 Nov 2008
Hit-or-miss socio-political satire by the guys who brought us Grosse Point Blank. I vastly prefer that film to this. At times the satire suffered from hammer-fisted pulpit delivery. The relationship between Kingsley and Cusack felt incidental at best and a waste of time at worst.
While I really enjoyed the relationship between Duff and Cusack and Tomei as a makeshift family unit, the finale of the film was utterly, crackheadedly out of place. A lighter touch with the satire, the axing of a few unnecessary sub-plots, and a more appropriate ending would have done wonders for the film.
Might I also say that though I love seeing her get work, Joan Cusack continues to be wasted on over-the-top bit parts in her brother's work...
