Review of War Horse (2011) by David S — 12 Nov 2012
Final got to sit down and watch this. Weirdly and purely by chance on Armistice Sunday which made the film very emotional compared to maybe how it would have been otherwise.
Certainly I can see War Horse being played on this day every year in the same way The Great Escape is played at Christmas.
Take the above away and this film is over produced, ridiculously pulls at the emotions and places us in a lot of very predictable scenarios e.g. Tommy and Fritz cutting the horse free in no-mans land and shaking hands afterwards!
The film never felt real, it reminded me heavily of my childhood films; Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang with stage sets.
In summary, enjoyed it. Not loved it. Expect it to be a annual experience on Remembrance Sunday where it really does do a job!
