Review of War Horse (2011) by Ilsa W — 29 Nov 2012
An enthralling, emotional journey. A fascinating take on the 1st World War from many different viewpoints. Using Joey as a point of reference the story follows many different characters on both sides, military and civilian, through various war time experiences.
I particularly enjoyed the moment where the British and German soldiers meet on No-Mans-Land to free Joey. Its also quite bizarre but the horse is a surprisingly good actor, its almost like you can see what he's thinking at times and his relationships with Albert and the other horse Topthorn are adorable.
I didn't cry as much as I expected but I found the end of the movie particularly moving but then I always was a big softie when it comes to these type of things. Great performances from Irvine and Hiddlestone (briefly) and there are a variety of familiar faces throughout.
Another Spielberg triumph!
