Review of War Horse (2011) by Frances H — 25 Jan 2013
An excellant movie of the kind that wasn't made any more until this one. As a horse lover, I had to see it. And War Horse is not just a boy and his horse kid flick. . it has some very profound things to say about the carnage and agony that was WWI--the folly of generals who did not understand that you couldn't send cavalry against machine guns, the cruel reality that deserters, no matter what their age or motivation, were summarily shot, and the feeling of the soldiers who fought in the trenches that the enemy who was the common soldier in the other trench across No-Man's Land had more in common with them than the old men politicians who got them into this war but weren't fighting in the hell of the trenches themselves.
And most profound of all is that message that love and decency still exits.
