Review of War Horse (2011) by Rinaldo S — 06 Jul 2013
Take National Velvet, My Friend Flicka and even Lassie Come Home, jumble them them together and you have War Horse. Hokey yet heartwarming. No doubt that's the kind of nostalgia Spielberg was aiming for.
Albert may as well have been Roddy McDowell and the sick girl Elizabeth Taylor. However, Alberts love affair with Joey was a tad unsettling. Add Equus to the mix, even though it "foals" the mood.
Spielberg, not one to miss an opportunity at historical anecdote, borrowed from the Christmas Truce, the brief cease fire that took place in "No Man's Land" between the bloody lines of the Western Front.
Despite the cliches the film was a fun jaunt. Are they sure no animals were harmed in the making of this film?
