Review of War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) by Lwa313 . — 23 Nov 2017
Matt Reeves directs the conclusion to his masterful sci-fi trilogy in a dour, yet poignant and utterly uplifting note. The film's next-level visuals are only a bonus with such a relevant and intelligently written tale.
These apes display such compassion and humanity, both through their realistic facial expressions and their actions. Serkis' performance is a revolutionary, while Harrelson makes a compelling antagonist.
Some viewers may find the film too difficult to watch, but its critique of humanity is as thoughtful as it is moving; the horrific scenes are intentionally horrific. 'War' is an unforgettable experience, and an epic conclusion to one of the greatest trilogies in the history of film.
