Review of War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) by Anuj & A — 26 Jul 2017
Quite possibly one of the greatest films I have ever seen, "War for the Planet of the Apes" accomplishes some VERY rare things in Hollywood today. It's a great 3rd entry in a great trilogy of movies that don't talk down to it's audience.
Intelligent, powerful, brilliantly made and executed, and passionately written, this film pushes the limits of Sci-Fi and does the most important thing this genre is supposed to: cause reflection.
Let's get past the amazing special effects and breathtaking score from Giacchino (making me wonder if he phoned in the Spider-Man score because he was busy writing this one) what. a. story.
The fantastic thing is that Mark Bomback & Matt Reeves don't assume their audience is dumb and pushes them to really think not just about what has lead to this film but the consequences of the events that do take place.
A morally beautiful film that not only caps of an excellent trilogy but SHOULD force all other writers and directors, especially in Sci-Fi, to start thinking harder about the quality of their work.
I cannot wait to see it again at home.
