Review of War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) by Larraine F — 19 Jul 2017
It's not often that a sequel is better than its forerunners, but this movie is. I might be over-rating it a bit because of the generally poor selection of good movies this summer. Nonetheless, the plot is clear and unique. It's easy to connect to the Apes but not so easy with humans. The apes illustrate the range of emotions that humans experience. The leaders of the apes are heroes and heroines who humans should strive to become. Humans are portrayed as narcissistic, violent and determined to survive regardless of the effects on nature. It's obviously stereotypical but effective in delivering the message that we are destroying the earth; not the apes.
The editing is precise but balanced; with the exception of the speechless girl. It takes time to understand her significance and role with the apes.
I really enjoyed the movie. I'm grateful for an outstanding movie in the summer!!!.
