Review of War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) by J G — 14 Jul 2017
When I first watched Rise of the Planet of the Apes in 2011, I honestly wasn't expecting much but was blown away by the characterisation of Ceasar and his fellow apes and still remember the sense of euphoria as I was watching that film.
It's been wonderful to see the story play out and handled with such affection when so many trilogies fall apart or just become a cash cow for studios. I must admit I teared not just by the end of the film but during too as I was witnessing a film with characters (whom you forget are completely computer generated) developed over time and grew, in a story that was captivating, emotional and humorous.
Andy Serkis and the team behind these films deserve recognition when to comes award season and I'm not sure any film is going to best this as my best of the year (probably not even Star Wars). Definitely 5/5.
