Review of Wanted (2008) by Victor D — 16 Dec 2012
There was a lot of hype about this one when it came out. Sure there were curving bullets and slow motion violence, but that wasn't enough to prove that this was a new and innovative action movie like so many early reviewers raved.
McAvoy wasn't all that exciting as the office drone turned action hero. I rarely find Jolie as sensual and thrilling as some fans make her out to be and she is mostly a silent stone-cold (expressionless) killer.
Freeman's character was interesting as far as the twist that is put on his type-cast trustworthy persona. There is hardly any character development of the minor players. And I found it more laughable than deeply symbolic that this summer explosion-fest trying to pose as a brainy kinetic thriller included anxiety/ADD being confused for a special ability and that the secret organization's cover is a weaving factory.
Really? Come on! Not impressed with Bekmambetov.
