Review of Waltz with Bashir (2008) by T S — 26 Sep 2009
This movie was absolutely unbelievable... "Waltz With Bashir" is Ari Folman's personal mission to remember his stint in the Israeli army during the Lebanese war of the 80s. According to a psychologist friend, Folman cannot remember anything from the conflict. The director pieces together and gradually understands his experience by listening to those who endured it with him.
An animated documentary, the style and color scheme really amplify the film and its message. Folman's psychological journey and eventual enlightenment precede an overwhelmingly powerful stylistic change and ending. Together, these components form the most effective punch to the face as any war movie in recent memory.
