Review of Wall Street (1987) by Steven M — 31 May 2010
This does stand up as a minor classic of its time. I watched it for the second time recently and was taken by how well the story is told. I don't think Stone gets enough credit for his pacing, and narrative skill.
I was engrossed. Douglas is excellent, never better and the two Sheens are very close to keeping up with him. I loved spotting Martin Sheen put his jacket on in a certain way and laughed at one truly ridiculous Hannah outfit.
It also contains one of the best lines in cinema when Gekko says what he'll do to the person who leaked some information about his plans. We don't even see his face when he says this spectacular line.
The Byrne/Eno and Talking Heads on the soundtrack also lift it. Great.
