Review of Wall Street (1987) by Adler N — 07 Oct 2010
Well, I guess it was what I expected, really.
Yes, it was a lot of fun watching Douglas playing a greedy but cunning fox in the movie. Speaking of Fox, Sheen was actually pretty good. It's probably due to Stone's good directing. It's not as if Wall Street was going to be a 'huge' movie, but we cannot disagree that it was entertaining. Sure.. there were some.. well, I don't even know what to say. It was a movie which stood its ground.
After watching "Money Never Sleeps", one would expect the first story to be more technical. Surprisingly, this film wasn't as mind-boggling as its sequel. It went simple and straight to the point that it was all about one man's greediness and inside information that got him into some hole. But, like WS2, this one had a lesson, of course (or financial lessons for that matter).
I wouldn't think that Douglas was the best actor in this one, though. Sheen was clearly showing more impetus, and we do feel drama coming out of him, every time we see him. He shows what a (Wall Street) guy would do rake in the millions, albeit illegally. He pushes the limits, and when things get bad, he lashes out like an animal. But, in the end, he reconciles and makes up. All that is shown properly in Sheen.
Might not be a mind-blowing movie, but I could understand why it was one of best of its times.
Personally*... Man, all this bad stuff about Wall Street.. who wouldn't feel tired of it?
