Review of Wall Street (1987) by Highs&Lows O — 22 May 2011
Classified: Very Fresh.
Defining Moment: Possibly the 'Greed is Good' speech but I found the Father/Son altercation more defining.
Highs:
Charlie Sheen is fantastic along with Michael Douglas who is awesome as Gekko. The story is simple enough and yet still having multiple layers of themes which allows 2nd and 3rd viewings of Wall Street to be enjoyable. With that the story is told very well with a great flow and climax at the end.
Lows:
What the heck happened with Daryl Hannah all her scenes seemed disjointed and uncomfortable. I am not saying this is her fault the blame could easily be put on Oliver Stone, but she was not good in this film at all.
H&L Conclusion:
I love this film, it made me a believer in Michael Douglas whom I didn't enjoy at all before seeing this film. Oliver Stone is a great director and although this isn't his greatest film it is still a fantastic watch and one of my favourites.
Star Rating: * * * * * * * * 8/10.
