Review of Walking on Sunshine (2014) by Edward E — 04 Jul 2018
Back when this film came out in 2014, I dismissed it like everyone else because it looked like a cheap version of Mamma Mia made by arrogant tryhards, but watching it for the first time in 2018 blew me away.
The song covers were well done, making everyone sound great (even weak singers like Greg Wise sounded a better fit for the movie than Pierce Brosnan), and the story kept my attention. Apart from a few director choices that I found a bit wonky (such as a few wasted potentials on certain camera angles in musical numbers), the time flew by.
Perhaps the critics that bashed this movie to pieces when it first came out should reconsider watching it again.
