One of the most beautifully shot films on location I've ever seen. Also, one of the rare films which is very successful to use national scenery for symbolism, although I have too little biblical knowledge to fully understand its meanings.

"Loss of innocence" theme is one of the themes that European "artistic" directors like to deal with, and this one's probably one of the best among those films. Modern and experimental (in very 70s way I'd say) editing works directly on viewers' minds and keeps bringing up some kinds of feelings in them like nostalgia, guilt, and adoration on love.

This film would achieve large number of audience especially in today's developed countries going green, though it is not really the core of the film.
