Review of Walkabout (1971) by Kenneth S — 11 Jan 2010
In Nicolas Roeg's masterpiece WALKABOUT, a brother and sister are stranded in the Australian outback after their father commits suicide. Struggling to survive, the come across an Aborigine boy on his walkabout, his ritualistic journey to manhood.
Although language and cultural barriers stand between them, the brother and sister go along with the Aborigine in order to survive. These barriers, though, play a major part in the story. The film is beautifully shot and totally unforgettable.
