Review of Walkabout (1971) by Gabriel K — 11 May 2012
This movie is visually dazzling, yet there's so much more beneath the surface. It's not immediately clear what Nicolas Roeg is trying to tell us, as his intentions are very subtle. This is not a typical "adventure" movie - it's really not "what" happens, but "how".
Despite being Nicolas Roeg's first movie, it features his technique in its finest, inducing intricate intercutting and the narrative that draws you in in an almost hypnotic fashion.
