Review of Walk the Line (2005) by Byron B — 02 Dec 2013
Not too familiar with Cash's music. T-Bone Burnett leads Phoenix to recreate Johnny Cash's tunes with aplomb. The way the rockabilly songs were shot, though, I was never really carried away. Cash has family troubles with his brother dying in a tragic accident when they were both young and his father is abusive.
When he tries to start his own family, he is instead drawn to the road to be a rock star. The story is basically the same as countless other biopics about celebrity musicians. He chases fame, battles drug addiction, and falls in love with June Carter (Witherspoon) while married to Vivian (Goodwin).
I enjoyed the performances, but it didn't come together to form something extra special.
