Review of Waking Life (2001) by Seann T — 31 Mar 2011
Linklater uses real actors but overlays simple graphics to give this film an animated feel (a very interesting, style made popular by the director) although the characters appearance and the monologues are far from cartoonish: the movie is densely packed with rapid-fire, stream of consciousness philosophical musings on dreams, reality, science, and human existence and emotions; maybe 10% of the (almost hundred?) monologues are pure pretentious pseudo-intellectual verbal diarrhea, but the remaining 90% provide plenty of food for thought (in my opinion, a very high success rate for this kind of esoteric, existential stuff), albeit without sufficient time to process it all.
.. which means that this film may require a second viewing.
