Review of Waking Life (2001) by William C — 19 Apr 2011
Definitely one of a kind film. I didn't expect this to be what it was, so during the first half hour I had to battle myself not to turn it off and watch something else instead. However, after adapting to the pace and style of the movie, I started getting it more.
I guess I'll have to watch it again, to make sure I understand everything. However, I don't think that everything is supposed to make sense, since it's a dream-world. Some of the ideas were really well put and were very interesting to follow.
While other scenes make absolutely no sense. I just had a hard time adapting to the constant monologue or dialogue scenes and following them one after another, cos' sometimes they're not even related at all.
This is why I can't say that this is shit, because there is so much to it, but at the same time I can't say it's brilliant, because it's just too overloaded with non-stop monologues filled with unnecessary "smarty" expressions.
So I go with the middle rating for this one.
