Review of Waking Life (2001) by Ryan V — 09 Feb 2012
This movie has a rather thin plot involving an assortment of individuals debating philosophical points. There is a main character who wonders if he's living in a dream world, but the key thrust of the film is the conversation.
I would've probably found Waking Life to be profoundly dull if not for the neat rotoscoped animation. It adds an appropriately surreal and dreamlike aura to this film. Most of the narrative power is accomplished through this interesting visual effect.
