Review of Waking Life (2001) by Joey S — 07 Jan 2013
As day #2 of my Linklater binge, I watched his experimental film "Waking Life" and collected final thoughts on it as followed. The film essentially is an ongoing sequence of philosophical ideas and concepts being exchanged between random characters at random places, so in a sense Linklater gets back to his "Slacker" roots of free-roaming cameras, improvised conversation and choppy sequence transitions.
A very interesting film to say the least for obvious reasons, it bears the most bizarre animation to date as well as transcendental, mind blowing topics of discussion--a perfect trip movie. The topics are of interest, but I think there is a slim target audience with a film like this, as almost the entire film is of people talking--easily boring for most audiences.
Not my favorite, but for what it is, I will celebrate it.
