Review of Wakefield (2017) by Mary B — 04 Jul 2017
Yes, Cranston gave a big but annoying performance, and that, combined with an interesting premise that was very short on credibility, left me with a movie that didn't succeed on any front. The "plausibles" were egregiously absent - Howard goes in and out of the family garage with regularity without ever being noticed by anyone other than the children next door; he even directly confronts his wife at one point without a glimmer of recognition.
(At that point I thought we had one of those dead-but-doesn't-know-it plots working). Months pass and he still has an active phone and credit cards when he decides to emerge? The inconsistencies were more than distracting.
I thought it was a failure.
