Review of Wake Wood (2011) by Brad R — 25 May 2011
THE VERDICT?
Whilst it IS a potentially fascinating premise (what WOULD you do if you could have a deceased loved one bought back from the dead for three precious days), it quickly slips into traditional horror-shlock fair as the reborn child quickly turns slasher.
Clearly inspired by a selection of earlier (and better) horrors including The Wickerman and Pet Cemetary, its eagerness to play it safe and be completely unimaginative is its own downfall in the end. Why did there have to be something wrong with the kid making her evil? Surely a sinister and psychological exploration of communicating witht the dead would have been a way better idea.
A wasted opportunity.
