Review of Wake Wood (2011) by Josh E — 04 Aug 2012
After a lengthy build-up with explicit gore that is entirely unrelated to the central plot-line (cow Cesarian anyone?), Wake Wood settles into an inexplicable rhythm. It becomes a standard demon-child slasher film, with little subtext or grace.
This is one of those films that ends with the main character preparing to do something edgy or subversive, but first looks into the camera and winks just before a freeze-frame occurs. Seriously.
