Review of Wake in Fright (1971) by Private U — 07 Mar 2008
Forget Mick Dundee. Forget The Man From Snowy River. Forget drag queens traipsing through the Outback. This film shows the mysoginistic, drunken and violent culture that pervades many areas of outback Australia, especially during this era.
Sylvia Kay looking at Donald Pleasance as she refers to her dog as a "slut" and Donald Pleasance's miserable face looking back at her lustfully hopeful yet despondent for the fact that he knows she is taunting his middle-aged, sexless, loner figure is fantastic.
This film has actually been lost, however a reel of it may have been found recently; so it is actually difficult to find and view.
