Quite a brilliant film. 'Wake In Fright' is one of my favourite books, I bought the restored DVD well over a year ago and have only just now gotten around to watching it! The film is very faithful to the book but it is a stunning film in its own right, quiet, contemplative and deeply unnerving - this is a frightening tale and a very overlooked Australian classic.
The film looks great, the Australian outback is captured perfectly, the bleakness, the starkness, the brutality. I think the book conveys the hopelessness of John Grants situation better than the film but the film is a work of art regardless.
