Review of Wake in Fright (1971) by Matt C — 17 Aug 2013
Disturbing tale of an educated outback teacher whose life, after losing all his money on the first night of a holiday in the "Yabba", descends into a nightmare of alcohol, violence and despair till suicide ends up his final option.
Painstakingly restored to it's original condition (and featuring a truly disturbing kangaroo hunt, which as explained in the ending is actually edited with footage of a real kangaroo hunt) this is an unnerving thriller/horror tale which actually has no real villain.
Recommended.
