Review of Waiting for "Superman" (2010) by Douglas D — 18 Feb 2011
Businesslike and informative, 'Waiting for Superman' is a look at the country's broken education systems and how to fix them. As a near future parent, there's a lot of great information here for me to think about, and as a film fan the movie's closing lottery countdown is truly suspenseful and emotional.
I appreciated the director's broad sweeping look at the education system, his use of graphics and animation, and his effort in ensuring the film had a high production quality. I wasn't crazy about the many fades that were employed during transitions, and I would have liked to hear a bit more from the unions and teachers.
If you're looking for an occasionally gripping education on education, then I highly recommend 'Waiting for Superman.' Its a great social awareness tool and should be required viewing for anyone serious about learning.
