Review of Waiting for "Superman" (2010) by Jonas J — 22 Mar 2011
As a disclaimer, I am an educator and have been an admirer of Geoffrey Canada for about four years now. So in short, my take on this film is incredibly biased. The problem with education is a complicated one.
I, for one, am very pro-union, however, I agree that the teachers' unions are absolutely out of control. Educators need to be held responsible for their students performance. Okay, I'm going to stop.
This is one of those zeitgeist films. Whereas people may try and write off Guggenheim's first big success, An Inconvenient Truth, by claiming global warming is a hoax...well, there should be no dissent here.
Education has been getting worse and worse for decades and even those with the drive and desire and social support, need good teachers and good schools. Here that? I didn't say great and great. Good.
We need goooooood schools to start. Go see this movie.
