Review of Waiting for "Superman" (2010) by Dana A — 27 Mar 2011
What an extremely depressing yet hopeful film about the American public school system. This film literally brought tears to my eyes and further proved just how far behind America is when it comes from education.
What I appreciate best about this film is that it not only focused on the poverty-stricken African American communities but on the the wealthy White communities. Proving this is more then an economic or racial problem.
This documentary did exactly what documentaries are suppose to do; open your eyes to a world you maybe ignoring and shining light on a much bigger problem. Sadly unlike a fictional story, since the truth is really being filmed, it does not have a cookie-cutter ending.
This is real, raw and at times depressing. No one comes out of this unscathed. This is a must-see film for not just film lovers or documentarians but for anyone that cares about education. This film effects all of us, whether or not we have children or where we were educated.
