Review of Waiting for Guffman (1997) by Josh H — 16 Jul 2008
Levy and Guest have found a winning formula. Building on the blueprint created by "This is Spinal Tap", they both celebrate and poke fun at community theater. They have also put together a "troupe" of players that always provide top notch performances. There isn't a weak performance in the bunch.
There is no script, but Guest and Levy give their cast cards with "themes" for each scene and key elements they are to use in their dialogue. What a wonderful opportunity for a comedic actor! And no one lets you down.
Its a very fast 93 minutes and when its over you will want more. Well, there isn't any, but Levy and Guest do have other films with the same incredible cast and formula(Best in Show, A Might Wind, For Your Consideration).
This film is not to be missed!
