Review of Wait Until Dark (1967) by Leah B — 09 May 2009
4: This is on my list of all-time favorite films. Spectacular genre picture. I would have loved to see what Hitchcock could have done with it, but Young isn't half bad either. The tension and suspense created over the course of the film becomes almost overwhelming.
Hepburn gives one of her best performances. It may not be quite as endearing and lovable as some of her more famous earlier performances, but it is no less entertaining and irresistibly watchable. The entire film essentially takes place in a single apartment, but it simply flies by.
Great script, great casting, great performances, spectacular score, tight direction, etc. The score in particular is way ahead of its time. Mancini really outdid himself here. The film achieves classic status due to the convergence of the various elements.
