Review of Wait Until Dark (1967) by Eytan D — 25 May 2013
Wait Until Dark is a perfect thriller that adapts greatly from stage to film. Frederick Knott's story is unique, intelligent, and most of all, frightening in its realism. What lends a layer of intensity to the film is its cast, led by a flawless Audrey Hepburn whose blind heroine Susy Hendrix is smarter than other genre protagonists you may see nowadays.
Alan Arkin's Roat makes for an unforgettably creepy villain. The movie's tension is ratcheted up by a nerve-shattering final battle between Susy and Roat as all of the lights go out and the nail biting ensues.
In the wake of movies like Psycho, I consider Wait Until Dark to be a classic chiller thanks to fantastic performances, a script that leaves you breathless, a whopper of a conclusion, and one great final scare.
