Review of W. (2008) by Steven C — 01 Aug 2009
Considering the over-ambitious junk Oliver Stone has done in the last ten years, a film about President George W. Bush before he's out of office seemed more preemptive than the first bombing of Iraq.
Surprisingly, this is quite an intriguing character study of a man who acted with conviction whether he was right or wrong, as played by the incredibly talented Josh Brolin. Brolin captures the voice, the gestures and the generally grotesque manners of our 43rd president quite perfectly and he's backed up by an equally talented cast who really nail these highly recognized political figures, which is always a challenge.
What's factual is hard to say without being based off a biography, but the George Jr.-George Sr. conflict is really compelling and seems to make sense.
