Review of W. (2008) by Daniel A — 14 Apr 2010
Nothing more than a series of scenes in the life of George W. Bush. Contrary to what some might think, Stone actually takes a pretty neutral stance and just leaves us to survey the damage and make up our own minds.
It's pretty boring though, but it's not the fault of the actors... a top notch ensemble cast is the only thing worth a damn in this movie. It's impressive to see Brolin, Banks, Burstyn, Cromwell, Wright and most importantly Dreyfuss absolutely nail their roles.
But, I suppose we got to know these characters so well over their political careers that anyone could do a good enough impression. That these are all well-trained and revered actors makes it more than good enough.
Thandie Newton weirded me out as Condi Rice, though... that's certainly not how Condi Rice sounds or acts, really... but nonetheless her uber-geek approach to the role feels appropriate!
