Review of Voices of a Distant Star (2002) by John D — 03 Jul 2007
As a newcomer to the anime sci-fi romance short genre, I cannot with full conviction review this movie. However, my amateurish notions will have to carry. When I watched through the first few minutes I was throughly disappointed because I didn't know it was a short.
I figured there would be more character development. As a short that can be forgiven, partially. The story centers around two high school lovers who are separated by time and space (literally). The animation, espically the depection of japan as sun scorched was interesting.
Lens flairs got a little annoying. The scifi plot itself was a character device, not an end in itself. I guess you have to know what you're looking for (or at) to fully appreciate this film.
