Review of Vivah (2006) by Deepika R — 24 Feb 2008
Vivah is yet another sickeningly sweet movie from the Barjatyas. There is very little in this movie that actually holds your attention. It has neither story nor plot. The actors don't have much scope for acting (although Shahid Kapoor was actually bad). There is no production value, no original dialogues, poor music, worse lyrics and extremely bland camera work. I found myself fast forwarding through the worse moments in the movie, and I *never* do that, even in bad movies. You really would be much better off watching paint dry. 1 Star (if I must).
It may come as a surprise to some that I have given this movie such a poor rating, when the average rating (out of a 1000 votes) is 4.5 stars on 5. I guess the point of contention is moral standards, on which people can widely differ. So my review only addresses the question of whether this is good cinema making, and the answer to that is a clear no.
