Review of Viva Las Vegas (1964) by Kendall I — 08 Jun 2011
Vegas baby!
PLOT:Lucky jackson (Elvis Presley) is a racecar driver set to participate in the Las Vegas Grand Prix agaisnt his rival, Count Mancini (Cesare Denova) but Lucky needa an engine for his racecar and along the way they fall in love with a girl named Rusty (Ann-Margret) and Vegas chaos ensues. It's a classic Elvis lovey-dovey plot. But I do appreciate the love story.
ACTING:Most acting wasn't half bad! Elvis played the part brilliantly and Ann-Margret played her part respectively. The rest were pretty good.
SCORE:Being an Elvis flick, you immediately know he's gonna sing. The only highlight songs is, of course, the title track. The rest he did were pretty good. I just hated every song that Ann-Margret sang. I believe she has no singing talent and no dancing talent. She can only act and look good.
CAMERAWORK:This had some pretty nice camerawork ! Especially for an Elvis movie. the director knows how to hit the right spot.
OTHER CONTENT:Besides Ann-Margret's misuse of talent, I also believed the chemistry was messed up. Her character is a total bitch and rejects him in every chance she can except for 2. He was like me in my younger days (when I say younger, 13 years to last school year): she looks good, so hit it! SPOILER HERE-and you know what? After all her bitching and griping, they get married in the end! Bump that, I would rather jump off Hoover Dam! Of course, that wasn't really a spoiler-considering on its predictability. It is a slide predictable, but this was early-age movies so..
OVERALL,an ok ELvis flick with a overused plot, good acting, very good score, and great camerawork! The downs being the ending, the predictability, the chemistry, and Ann-Margret's misuse of talent.
