Review of Visitor Q (2001) by Stevie S — 09 Mar 2007
It's very hard to rate a movie like Visitor Q, as with most Miike films. On the one hand, the movie is way too out there, hard to follow and fucked up to really rave about, but on the other hand that is the point of the movie, and it is very successfully done.
Not a particularly good movie, but a particularly effective one, Miike is a master manipulator. Wheras any other filmmaker would just make this stuff seem trashy and exploitative, Miike pulls the hat trick of making it seem trashy and exploitative but not gratuitous.
Us hardcore Miike fans should check it out. All others be warned.
