Review of Virtuosity (2014) by M.i. K — 17 Feb 2010
Finally saw this and made some interesting observations. First of all, I wasn't wowed with the storyline, I figure because of how far SFX has come, I am probably desensitized to older Sci-fi movies like this.
The effects look second rate to whats coming out of Hollywood nowadays, but with that said, this movie excels because of its stars. It pains me to think of what a let down American Gangster was, particularly Crowe's acting, when he was probably the high point of this movie.
Think of Heath Ledger's Joker performance minus the face paint. Thats pretty much what I thought of when watching this. Crowe played the psychopathic murderer excellently, and I thought Denzel as the enforcer who has to take him down was a brilliant casting choice.
Speaking of the joker, I do see some Dark Knight similiarities, heck the final fight also took place on a roof top. Hmmm makes me wonder if the director of the Dark Knight is a fan of this movie.
