Review of Viridiana (1962) by Seabury N — 24 Jan 2010
It is a bit heavy-handed, but it is quite fantastic really. The story is about how good intentions don't always lead to good things, basically an indictment of blind pious behavior. It is told as much through plot as symbols and metaphors.
There's nothing terribly groundbreaking or controversial in this film, and the telling, while interesting, isn't exactly anything to inspire. I enjoyed the film quite a bit, but still found it to be slightly overrated.
