Review of Viridiana (1962) by Daniel S — 14 Jun 2010
The first half hour or so is excellent, showing a morbid tale of forbidden obsession and desire, the whole tone was just so ominous, with amazing use of lighting, shadows and music, and a good performance by rey, but then the film takes a 180 of sorts, showing a pessimistic story of people doing bad things to people even tho they were good to them to begin with, and the futility of trying to help one poor person cuz there will always be more, while I think that message/moral what have you is good and daring, I didnt feel satisfied with the way it was done, maybe it was cuz I just so caught up with the first part and wanted to see more of that storyline, it does seem to meander, especially at the end, maybe if it had been 2 separate films, I wouldve enjoyed it more.
