Review of Village of the Damned (1995) by William K — 15 Mar 2008
I was sorely disappointed by this remake. Gone was the creepy atmosphere and the chillingly stark portrayals of the children. Here are kids that are explicitly alien who just don't stop inflicting violence on the community, pretty much willy-nilly. There are new characters who don't make any sense and there's a really awful missed opportunity for the new preacher character to flip out and think the kids are divine births.
Definitely the least of Carpenter's films. It seems that in 1995, he put all of his awesome into In the Mouth of Madness (which I'm fine with).
