Review of Village of the Damned (1995) by Bonnie M — 28 Feb 2009
The ending sucked. I watched it for Thomas Dekker (David), Christopher Reeves (Mara's dad) and Mark Hammel (Pastor). All Thomas had to do was blink his doe eyes a few times and say some stiff lines. Mark's acting was horrible. Reeves was ok.
The premise was intriguing. The special effects budget must not have included the kind of craft we see in Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles, because as for the 'invasion' we only hear sinister whispers flittering through windows and casting oblong shadows.
Dude on the grill = awesome.
Other deaths= not so awesome.
Kristie Alley played...er...overacted her part as an investigator who later learns more than she should have w/o sharing. Then she shares and says forget what you've seen. She ends up dissecting herself for the children.
At the beginning, the women are offered abortions. I wasn't sure how to take it, as all of the women kept their babies and look how it turned out for them. The virgin birth supposedly ended in a shady 'stillbirth', but may have saved David.
Saved him for what? A sequel that never happened? Is he due to expire? Or will he populate the earth with 1/3 alien spawn?
The 'almost' end was intense, I felt like I was helping keep the wall up.
