Review of Videodrome (1983) by Scott P — 17 Nov 2008
Cronenberg's geek-on-his-sleeve playtime with sadomasochism and brainwaves is exploitation done right; the proto-futuro warning of the Cathode Ray Tube has such a retro-mad-scientist zane that Cronenberg could be a prophet; inventing the television before we knew it.
Videodrome (best title ever?)--this here is H.G. Wells for the acid freaks; the shamelessly camp dialogue 'Long Live the New Flesh'; effectively disturbed and demented imagery; this is a visual comic for dirty boys to watch under the covers by flashlight, sex and brain explosions and all.
